"Frank Romano's autobiographical memoir is in a sense many books in one: an account of the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development of a young Californian in Paris, a travel narrative that takes the reader from France into parts of Morocco unknown to Westerners, a religious meditation on meaning to be found in the Qur'an and the teachings of Islam, and an exciting adventure story of a traveler's imprisonment in and escape from a mosque ruled by fanatics. On every level, it holds the reader's attention, indeed fascination."
--Mary Ann Witt, professor emeritus

"Romano writes well, and definitely infuses his words with his feelings. The first five chapters or so, even before he left on his journey, were written with such intensity that I was only able to read a chapter or two at a time."
--Jen Cardwell, Reader Views

"It took Frank Romano, a native Oregonian, 25 years to write Storm Over Morocco. The first-person narrative chronicles his misadventure when he was invited to study Islam and immersed himself in the religion that he then truly thought was the universal religion."
--Bill Duncan, Umpqua Newspaper, Roseburg, OR

Storm Over Morocco: Finding God in the Midst of Fanatics

by Frank Romano
ISBN: 978-1-934209-43-1

"The book offers a moving description of the mysteriously dark and shabby streets of Morocco, the hospitality of its people, the cohesion, and the air of silence teeming with conflict between fundamentalists and the more liberal Muslims of the country."
Ernest Dempsey, Armchair Interviews

Frank Romano is a veteran Italian-American lawyer and (PhD) professor, teaching and residing in Paris, and an erudite in literature and philosophy. In his latest book, Storm Over Morocco, Romano gives an engrossing account of his journey to Morocco and the implications of his African experience for his spiritual self. Frank's motivation to visit Morocco came after he went blasé on the ostentatious bustle of Parisian life and its dry intellectual themes. His observation of a couple of Moroccan servants in Paris sparked Frank's interest in their religion and culture. This led him to seek a universal truth that will bring peace to mankind, and the young Parisian fled the chains of a passionate romance to set out for Morocco with the words of a Muslim servant in his heart.
