Parabel is a book of poetry blurring the lines between prose poem and narrative, Parable is a tensely written tale of an individual confronted with the demands of the State in a manner which he cannot avoid.
The issue at stake is one of power and authority--where does one end, where does the other reside, what are the choices which the individual is faced with in a society which seems to ask little of its citizens but which in fact asks everything. The issues of individuality versus the role of the State is one which has dominated western literature. The issue has never been satisfactorily resolved--not is it attempted in this novella. The dilemma however remains. A choice will have to be made--what are the consequences that will follow?
A man is given a gun and a victim: who is guilty in a world where all innocence has ended? Who is the target and what is the crime?
The choice is death or disobedience. There is no other question to be answered
